GENERAL ALBUM INFORMATION
Raven Records was an Australian independent record label established in 1979 by music historian and journalist Glenn A. Baker, together with Kevin Mueller and Peter Shillito. Unlike most independent labels of the period, Raven was created primarily to recover, document and reissue recordings from the past, rather than to develop contemporary artists. It provided an outlet for material considered too specialised or collector-oriented to attract the interest of the major record companies.
Operating in a similar field to Rhino in the United States, Charly and Edsel in the United Kingdom, and Line in Germany, Raven entered into exclusive licensing agreements with Australian companies including Festival, EMI, CBS, PolyGram, RCA, Albert Productions and W&G Records. Internationally, it licensed material from labels such as Capitol, Mercury, Pye, Impact, United Artists, Audio Fidelity and Decca. Raven also dealt directly with prominent Australian artists to secure previously unreleased recordings of particular interest to collectors.
Raven's earliest releases focused on rare Australian recordings from the beat and garage-rock era. In 1980, the label expanded into long-playing archival compilations, establishing the format that would become central to its catalogue.
A central part of the label's appeal was its claim that Raven offered reissues of exceptional value, "prepared by collectors for collectors".
Raven went on to become one of Australia's longest-running and most highly regarded specialist reissue labels. It ceased operations in April 2017, after thirty-eight years.
This sequel to The Beatles Talk Downunder was released in November 1984, again in mono, but this time in a gatefold sleeve. Mouse over the sleeve image above to view the inner gatefold.
The parenthetical phrase "And All Over" reflects that unlike the first LP, Volume 2 was not confined to the Australian and New Zealand tour but covered other subjects as well.
Compiled by Glenn A. Baker and Bruce Hamlin, the album was distributed by Larrikin Records Distribution.
A particularly elaborate Japanese edition appeared on 5 December 1986 through Overseas/Teichiku as UPS-679-V. It included a gatefold sleeve, picture labels, an eight-page Japanese transcript, a postcard, sticker and individual collector's number. Its packaging used several photographs from the 1964 tour, including numerous images of Jimmy Nicol.
